The Philosophy of RetroPGF
Hel rewards the past, retroactive recognition transforms speculative mindset into structural mindset
Here Hel reveals her true nature. She does not look forward with speculation. She looks backward with recognition. Retroactive Public Goods Funding, RetroPGF. Not a future grant promise conditioned on a committee-approved pitch. Posterior recognition of what has already been built and already demonstrated real value.
The logic runs deep: no one knows with certainty what will have value before it is built. Roadmaps are hypotheses. Whitepapers are intentions. Pitches are theater. But everyone can evaluate what had value after it has been used, what was downloaded, what was cited, what made builders more productive, what made the ecosystem more accessible. So: let builders build. Watch what works. Then, reward.
You build because you believe. Not because someone promised immediate return. Not because a grant fund approved your project on the merit of a presentation. You build and the ecosystem, represented by the Citizens' House, the chamber of Helheim's citizens, composed of verified contributors, evaluates real impact and distributes proportional recognition.
The first round in 2021 allocated about one million dollars to public goods, before OP existed. Later rounds used the token launched in 2022. Libraries, tools and education received recognition. Hel honored the realm’s quiet foundations, with each reward bearing its own time’s mark.
Hel transforms speculative mindset into structural mindset. In Valhöll, warriors feast for the triumphs of the past. In Helheim, builders are recognized for the quiet work of the past, and freed to continue building the future without the paralyzing pressure of immediate return that kills infrastructure projects before they can reach maturity.
