The Realm in Layers

Niflheim does not mix functions. It separates. And this separation was one of the most unusual architectural decisions of any blockchain: instead of a single chain that does everything, Avalanche was built on three chains with distinct purposes.

The X-Chain, *Exchange Chain*, is where native assets are created and transferred. It does not use linear blockchain structure, but DAG, Directed Acyclic Graph, a graph where transactions can be confirmed in parallel, without the serial limitation of sequential blocks. It is the chain of pure exchange. Fast. Parallel. Relentlessly efficient.

The C-Chain, *Contract Chain*, is where smart contracts live. Compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, so that the entire Midgard ecosystem could be transplanted at the cost of ice instead of the cost of fire. This is where DeFi, NFTs, and complex applications inhabit Niflheim.

The P-Chain, *Platform Chain*, is the coordination layer. Where validators register. Where subnets are created. Where network governance lives. The foundation upon which everything else is built.

This division is not aesthetic. It is architectural. Each part does exactly what it needs to do, without carrying the weight of what it does not need. Ice is precise. It does not accumulate what does not serve. It does not waste structure where there is clarity of function.
