Canto X: The Geopolitics of Pantheons
Bitcoin dominates the West; TRON dominates the East; TON emerges as a third way; crypto becomes geopolitics.
But in this hour, in this moment when Odin and Zeus had finally reached their mutual understanding, a new complication emerged from the mist of territories that neither realm completely governed: geopolitics. Because crypto had grown beyond being a financial or technological question, it had become a question of power between nations, of monetary sovereignty, of who would control the value networks of the 21st century.
The West, that civilization that had embraced Bitcoin as alternative store of value and Ethereum as financial innovation infrastructure, had formalized its position with the ETFs. But the East had taken different paths. China had banned Bitcoin but was building its digital yuan (e-CNY), a CBDC that was the antithesis of everything Erebus represented. Japan had embraced regulated crypto. South Korea had one of the highest populations of crypto traders per capita in the world.
Borders also crossed Telegram and TRON. Veles knew state pressure on communication channels; Zeus watched stablecoins move across markets with different needs. Justin Sun had represented Grenada at the WTO from 2021 to 2023. The post did not make its holder or his network immune to every law.
Europe built its own rules, the MiCA regulation (Markets in Crypto-Assets) established a legal framework for all of the European Union, trying to create uniform rules where there had been jurisdictional chaos. Latin America saw Bitcoin as protection against hyperinflation in countries like Argentina and Venezuela. Africa saw in crypto a form of financial inclusion that decades of conventional banking development had failed to deliver. Each region had its own relationship with the pantheons.
There is an entire geopolitics of pantheons, said Athena. And crypto will not be dominated by a single pantheon because the world is not governed by a single nation. The multiplicity of pantheons reflects the multiplicity of the world. Bitcoin is the dollar of the crypto cosmos, predominant but not absolute. Ethereum is the global capital markets. TRON is the payment channel of the global south. TON is the parallel internet for those resisting censorship. And each is necessary precisely because the world is too complex for a single solution.
There is an entire geopolitics of pantheons.
