Canto VIII: The Lesser Gods Observe

Thor, Magni and the gods of other pantheons watch their realms flourish

While Odin and Zeus waged their silent dialogue, and while their armies battled in narratives and memes, the lesser gods observed. Those gods that mortals sometimes forgot because the press always returned to the duel of the two great, but who were building, silently, the realms that would define everyday blockchain use in ways that neither Asgard nor main Olympus could predict.

Hephaestus, the god of the Forge, bent over his highest-speed smart contracts, had survived the FTX inferno and emerged wiser. Solana processed millions of transactions a day. The ecosystem of memecoins, games, DePIN had flourished over its furnaces, and each new application was another stone in a building that critics had proclaimed demolished in November 2022. Hephaestus had not asked permission to rise. It had simply risen.

Veles watched Telegram reach hundreds of millions of users in 2024, an audience opening paths to TON without equaling its active users. Erebus guarded Monero’s privacy tools. Dionysus danced with Dogecoin, and Magni upheld Litecoin’s silver. Each god brought a distinct task to the gathering.

Thor contemplated Ethereum after the September 2022 Merge, which replaced mining with Proof of Stake and sharply reduced consensus energy use. Arbitrum, Optimism, Base and other rollups grew on his network. Their guarantees and costs varied by architecture, but they settled proofs or state commitments on Ethereum, Thor’s realm.

The world is flourishing, Thor said to his fellow lesser gods. But the two kings still believe they are alone at the top. What Thor knew, and what the two kings would learn, was that the digital cosmos had grown beyond the duel. It had become an ecology. An ecology where each creature had its niche, its function, its moment of relevance. And where the health of the whole depended not on the dominance of one, but on the diversity of all.
