Canto IV: The Maenads of Charity
The Dogecoin community funds the Jamaican bobsled team, NASCAR, and water wells in Kenya
Dionysus does not accumulate wealth. It flows through him to where it is needed. And the Dogecoin community, still only months old, demonstrated this with a series of collective acts of generosity that left the rest of the crypto world without an adequate response, because there was no technical response to what had happened.
In January 2014, the community raised DOGE to help Jamaica’s bobsled team reach the Sochi Olympics. The effort complemented other funding sources. The dog had crossed the screen to take part in an Olympic dream.
The campaign to sponsor NASCAR driver Josh Wise came in March 2014. On 4 May, car number 98 carried the Shiba Inu at Talladega, where Wise finished twentieth. Fundraising and racing belonged to different months, joined by the same community.
In March 2014, Doge4Water raised over 40 million DOGE, about $30,000 then, to support wells in Kenya. The coin was just over three months old. Digital enthusiasm was becoming tangible help.
Dionysus’s thyrsus symbolized joy and transformation. In early 2014, his digital followers discovered that a joke could gather people for concrete action. The god smiled: a celebration’s value also lay in what it left behind.
A celebration can also leave water, paths and encounters.
