Fifth Canto: The Garden of DeFi
DeFi protocols flourish on TRON, creating new opportunities for those excluded from traditional finance.
With USDT flowing like nectar through TRON's veins, a new ecosystem began to crystallize. DeFi, Decentralized Finance, had been born on Ethereum, but on TRON, it could actually function. Where Ethereum's fees consumed 30%, 50%, sometimes even 90% of small transactions, TRON's protocols could operate with fees of less than 1%.
The 2017 TRX sale raised resources for the network. The token still circulated on Ethereum and passed through the excitement and volatility of 2017–2018. Zeus had heard his thunder echo; now he needed to turn attention into infrastructure.
In early 2018, accusations arose that the whitepaper copied passages from other projects. The team disputed that interpretation and pointed to translation and attribution issues. The controversy followed the network launch: Zeus learned that mortals could examine the origins of words line by line.
Mainnet launched on 31 May 2018. Migration to native TRX and Independence Day on 25 June 2018 marked another stage: TRON moved beyond TRX as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. The network targeted three-second blocks; block production and transaction finality remained distinct measures.
By 2021, TRON's DeFi ecosystem had grown to rival Ethereum's in transaction volume while operating at a fraction of the cost. The message was clear to anyone watching: the future of finance would not be determined by technical purity, but by the ability to serve the needs of ordinary people. TRON had chosen to serve them.
Finance divorced from practicality is just mathematics; TRON made it useful.
