Sixth Canto: The War Against Dragons
The BitTorrent company’s acquisition in 2018 opens the way to BTT in 2019
In July 2018, the BitTorrent company’s acquisition brought an established file-sharing service closer to TRON. The company and its clients were part of the deal; the open protocol and all its participants did not become Sun’s property. Zeus had acquired an entrance to a community, not dominion over the whole current.
The attacks came from every direction. Academic papers questioned TRON's security model. Venture capitalists, whose business models depended on expensive transactions and high barriers to entry, funded FUD, Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt. Media outlets, often captured by the interests of the old order, published article after article questioning TRON's legitimacy. How could this upstart claim to build the future when it abandoned the philosophical purity that Bitcoin and Ethereum had preached?
In January 2019, the BitTorrent Token, BTT, sale took place through Binance Launchpad. The token proposed incentives for file-sharing services. The path from acquisition to digital incentives had another stage; the existing audience still had to choose whether to follow it.
Justin Sun, like a true captain, did not flee from the storm. He hired the best legal counsel. He engaged with regulators not as an adversary, but as a builder. He demonstrated that TRON, despite its speed and accessibility, maintained the security properties of a blockchain. That Super Representatives, despite being elected through voting, were transparent and audited. That the DeFi ecosystem, despite its sometimes reckless innovation, operated on verifiable smart contracts.
In the end, the dragons learned what every dragon learns when it meets an opponent who will not yield: that persistence, combined with legitimacy, defeats fear. TRON did not become conventional. But it became undeniable. By 2022, even TRON's fiercest critics had to acknowledge that it had not collapsed, had not failed, and had fundamentally changed blockchain's trajectory from a theory-driven pursuit to a utility-driven practice.
The greatest vindication is not debate; it is survival.
