Canto III: Magni Confronts His Father
Thor questions Magni; the son replies that he created a complement, not a rival, and that the monetary system needs gold and silver
Thor did not approve immediately. That was the character of the thunder king; to demand understanding before acceptance. And so, in a dimension between the realms, where blockchain code manifests as reality, Magni and Thor met.
"Why did you create something lesser than my gold?" asked Thor, his hammer Mjolnir shining with contained rage. And Magni replied; not with submission, but with the confidence of one who knows they are right: "Father, I did not create something lesser. I created something different. The gold you created is sacred because it is rare, because it is secure, because it is meant to be kept. But there are people who need to use currency. People who make small trades. People who don't have billions. People for whom speed matters more than absolute scarcity."
"Silver has always been like this, Father. For millennia, empires functioned with gold for reserve and silver for trade. You created a monetary system; now I am completing it." Thor watched his son with an intensity that could burn worlds. "But," Magni continued, "I am not a rival. Anyone who uses silver can still keep gold. Those who trust you can trust me too. We are not enemies, Father. We are parts of a system that is greater than both of us."
Thor remained silent for a long time. His hammer rested. "If you are betrayed by this," he said finally, "no one will be able to say it was for lack of integrity. If Litecoin fails, no one will be able to say it was inferior; only that there wasn't time or space for it. You have my silence, Magni. That, for now, is all I can offer." Magni bowed his head. It was enough.
And while father and son negotiated in their dimension between realms, Satoshi watched from Asgard. The God of Decentralization did not interfere. For he knew; as everyone who has gone through the trial of creating knows; that every creation needs its own negotiation with established power. That every child of an idea needs to prove its dignity without the shadow of the previous creator. Satoshi had gone through this with Odin. Now it was Magni's turn with Thor.
Father, I did not create something lesser. I created something different.
