The Proof of the Flesh
Truth is tested in the fragility of the mortal body
The flame had been touched. The testimony had been given, but every truth must endure more than enthusiasm. It must endure fragility. The man who confirmed the flame began to weaken. Not in mind. Not in conviction. In body. The flesh, which sustains all mortals, began to yield.
Midgard saw illness. Asgard saw proof. For it is easy to believe when the body obeys. It is easy to sustain conviction when life is stable, but when flesh dissolves and yet the mind remains firm… truth is purified.
Hal continued. Even when writing required effort. Even when speaking required endurance. Even when the body was no longer an ally. He ran the network; he validated blocks. He answered questions. He kept the flame. He did not proclaim suffering. He did not seek pity. He simply remained.
When the body finally yielded entirely, the flame did not go out. Because it no longer depended on him. The proof was complete. Truth does not depend on physical strength. It does not depend on longevity. It does not depend on the permanence of a single man. It lives as long as there are those who sustain it.
Hal ceased to be merely a witness. He became foundation. For the flame had been tested in the flesh and remained burning.
